I loved this place for years and was a loyal customer up until they screwed me over during a lunch visit one day. I love their soups, salads, sushi, and hibachi meals. However, one day friends and I came in and ordered a few sushi rolls. When we saw that they were bringing out 5 sushi rolls, we pointed out that we only ordered 3. It turns out, unbeknownst to us, someone else had marked off other rolls on the other side of the slip. When we pointed out the mistake, they refused to acknowledge that it wasn't our fault and made us pay for what we didn't order. Bad service and I don't plan on returning or recommending the place again.

Always been my favorite place for sushi. For starters I always get the Tuna Tar tar. Crispy pawn chips with spicy tuna avocado topped with house sauce. Sexyman and Spicy girl Rolls are my favorites. Great food, so is the service. Don't forget to order Banzai (fish, calamari, shrimp&scallop)if you dine in at Hibachi grill. I would love to comeback soon! Oh yeah..... Ask for yummy yummy sauce !!

They follow the optimal business principal. Under promise and over deliver....nothing about the outside / location are that appealing, but when you step inside the place was nice, the sushi was really good and the workers were the best. I will definitely go back

I've been a customer here for ten years. Always been my favorite place to get sushi. Half off sushi, apps, and drinks after 9. And they're always open until midnight. You can't beat that. The place is clean, never a sign of any kind of pests, only has 9 violations. The over embellished news article has given this place a bad rep. The media ALWAYS blows everything out of proportion.

We used to be regulars at this place until we saw it on the news for: A health inspector ordered a restaurant employee covered in blood out of the kitchen until the employee was properly cleaned up and the wound could be bandaged in April of 2015. The inspection report states the injured kitchen worker was handling food with an uncovered head wound. The inspector described the employee's dried blood covering the entire side of his neck down to his shoulder. It was just one of more than 50 violations cited by a state health inspector on the March visit to Edo Japanese restaurant on 66th Street North in St. Petersburg. Other violations included dead roaches found under the hibachi tables along with rodent activity with droppings discovered near the dish machine, under the dry storage shelf. YUCK YUCK YUCK!! Bye bye Edo!!

Fantastic food, great quality. Wonderful sushi. Did take out but the man at the cashier was very nice, welcoming, and frankly entertaining. I've eaten here multiple times now and have never been disappointed. This the place to go for Japanese food in Pinellas Park. (Do not go to Hiro's Tokyo because they serve rotten food.)

Haven't been back here since last year when I found a small german cockroach floating in my drink, and then was told by the waitress "not to say anything because other customers might hear." The restaurant was just cited for over 50 health code violations, including cockroaches under the hibachi tables, rodent droppings, and a cook who continued to work with a bloody, uncovered head wound. Hmmm.. no thanks, never again.

Duke and I love sushi so we went to EDO Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar in St. Petersburg. It is a very large restaurant and includes a very large bar area where you can have a cocktail and watch as the Sushi chefs prepare the beautiful sushi dishes, or you can sit at a table and be served. There were so many different types of sushi rolls, and one prettier than the other. And oh so delicious! We had some tempura and spring rolls, then hibachi (shrimp, lobster, ssteak, chicken and scallops and they were de-lish. They use real butter and oil on these entrees and boy does that make a difference in the flavor! There is a nice sized private party room, probably could seat 20, and another large hibachi-style room, with about 4 hibachi tables that seat 16 to 18 to a table...very large. They have drink specials and the food is fresh, affordable and good-quality, and very tasty. The restaurant is run and owned by Hahn and her daughter Michelle, who are very gracious hosts and really make you feel at 'home.'

Great food. They were understaffed the night we went, but they still managed to keep the wait to a minim. We would definitely come again.

The only place I know of that serves sushi at 3pm on a Sunday! Edo is open starting at Noon and does not close before dinner as most places do. Amazing sushi at amazing prices, served at all hours...win/win/win. (We did not have the teppanyaki) I specifically have to mention the "Tapple" appetizer roll (spicy tuna and fuji apples). It's a full roll and only 7 dollars. This is easily a 12 dollar roll at any other place (though I have never even seen such a roll anywhere but Edo)...I found all of their rolls were priced 1-3 dollars below "market". Every roll we had was done perfectly, presented beautifuly, and of top quality. I love the old school, dark wood and leather atmosphere. Edo has earned the title of "my sushi place".

Great sushi. One of my personal favorites! The have awesome lunch and dinner specials for a great price. Must have "paradise roll" which is around $5-6

The BF and I came here for an early Valentines/Birthday dinner date. This place was a bit of a hike for us, but we had heard good things from friends who have come before and we had a BOGO coupon, so decided to give it a shot. We arrived around 8 PM on a Thursday. It was not too busy, but we didn't feel like sitting at the big hibachi table, so we grabbed a table for 2 and waited for the server to come by for drink orders. It took a while before she first came to check on us, but after that she was much quicker. We were impressed with their drink specials for the evening: $1 for any domestic beer, so he got a miller and I had a wood chuck cider. Definitely a great deal on the drinks. We started out with a spicy tuna sushi roll and then each ordered a meal from the hibachi grill. He got the steak with veggies and white rice and i ordered the shrimp yakisoba, which came with noodles instead of rice. We also got soup and salad for starters with the meal. As far as the sushi is concerned, it was fresh and tasty, we definitely approved of that. The disappointing part of our experience was with the timing on the service. Less than 2 minutes after we got our sushi, the server brought out our soup and salad. Then another 2 minutes passed by and our meals were coming out. Sure, it's nice when you don't have to wait long for food, but not when the food comes out so quick you don't have time to finish the sushi and salad first. We were definitely a bit bummed out with that. In regards to the meal, his was okay, but the steak was very tough and didn't seem like great quality. Mine was okay too, but the noodles were very very salty and almost a bit too much to keep eating. I have had better food from other hibachi restaurants like Arigato and Kobe before. This wasn't quite up to par of those other restaurants, but the prices were cheaper so at least that was a slight bonus. The environment here was a bit peculiar. It seemed clean enough overall, but there was a random cardboard box laying on the floor leading up to the bathrooms, like a "rug" leading into the restrooms and the chairs and tables in the dining area were a weird mismatched set. Randomly at 9 PM they dimmed the lights, put on a strobe light and started playing house music.. Hmmm??? Overall, the food was okay, the drink specials were excellent and the prices were reasonable. Not sure if we'll be rushing back here again anytime soon, but it wasn't bad in the long run.

I would have given it five stars, but the atmosphere is not the strong point of this restaurant. It was very very dark in there, but it didn't bother me any as long as the sushi was good. The sushi that I got was indeed very good though, and very affordable. I went during lunch time, and got the lunch special where you get two rolls of sushi Soubre salad for like 8 bucks. You can't beat that deal. Definitely would recommend this place as a lunch stop.

This is exactly what I look for in a sushi restaurant with its quality and price. I couldn't reasonably ask for a better balance.

I had always wanted to try this place. I found a Groupon for Edo a while ago and I was so happy I did. This place is really big since they got Hibachi tables, even tho you cannot see anything from outside. (thier windows got some designs on it so it is very hard to see anything both from inside and outside) This place is definitely affordable and has good quality. I did not try any Hibachi but all the rolls I had were good. The server and the hostess were very nice :) The negative side is thier decor and possibly cleanliness. It is very out of date and old. I don't know if it is because of their old furniture or dark lighting, this place does not look so clean. (But again, I am not really sure whether this place is cleani or not). I would def. go back here. Maybe next time I will try some Hibachi.

One of the best places to go for sushi in St. Pete. A wide variety and Oh, so delicious! We go there for lunch or late afternoon sushi at their bar or tables as well as dinner at one of their hibachi grills. The best part of their hibachi fare is that the chefs clean the grill after cooking each course so all the foods don't taste like the fried rice. They also use the appropriate cooking fluid for each entry; flavored oils for the steak and chicken and BUTTER for the lobster and scallops! If you don't go with a group of six or more, you may have to wait a bit for the grill to start (typical of many hibachi restaurants). Start your dinner off right with Sushi and a nice warm bottle of Sake! You won't be disappointed here. Eat Well My Friends! Ed S

Great food...I have been here a few times for hibachi and it's delicious...great early bird specials as well! Wish they would just update the look of the place and make it look lore modern.

Sushi was good. We had salmon and the eel. Our grill cook was not Asian, but he did a good job. The only reason I wouldn't go back to this establishment is because I have other steak houses closer to me I haven't tried yet and I thought it was dirty. The staff was nice. A little pricey for what you got. Didn't have two out of the three Japanese beers we ordered. Ended up with Sapprano beer. It's worth a try, you may like it. Don't mind the eye sore next door (trailers and industrial?) The inside is better.

Definitely a good place to stop in. Entrees are big enough to share, service is friendly.

Worst teppanaki place I've ever seen.... Place needs an overhaul, ceiling was falling apart, plastic tarp taped to the wall covering plates looked left over from bug night. Dirty plates, and a ginger salad that tasted like pesticides.

I don't get the hype. I went to this place expecting great sushi and what I got was mediocre. First the positives: the staff was accommodating and very nice. It's quite a large restaurant and it utilizes it's space well. I felt it was a little too dark, but since I went around dinner time, perhaps that was part of the evening ambiance. Now the negatives, and boy are there plenty. I tried the age dashi tofu as my appetizer, which is one of my favourite dishes. A good dish of age tofu consists of 2-inch pieces of tofu, battered with tempura, and fried until they are pillowy. The dashi sauce it is served with is a mixture of fish broth and soy sauce which gives it a great flavour. That's not what I received at Edo at all. They cut their tofu WAY too small and skimp on the batter. You're basically served a handful of crouton sized tofu pieces in a dark broth that tasted like salt, salt, and more salt. I couldn't even finish this dish. Then came the sushi. I tried my favourites because they are the standard I judge all sushi restaurants by. What I got was edible, but I think the sushi at the counter in Public was of better quality. The eel was flavourless and slightly chewy (it should melt in your mouth). The roe was not popping, a sign that made me question the freshness. The rolls I got were just...messy, both physically and in taste. To add insult to injury, the meal ended up costing me $45. I would have paid half of that at my usual place. I wanted to like this place, I really did, but I won't be going back again. Life is too short for mediocre sushi.

The teppanyaki grill is mediocre. Everything, from the rice to the scallop, gets the same seasoning and garnishes. We had also asked for medium cooked steak and it turned out rubbery and overcooked. Our first and our last visit. Thank god we had Groupons!

Yeah, baby! Happy birthday to ME! Just returned from a bday celebration with friends at Edo Japanese Steakhouse. Good lord, have mercy. I don't have the words to describe the yummy, spicy, melt in your mouth affair I just had with my dinner! All I can say is, GO. GO SOON. I swear, every time we eat here it's better than the last. We order everything, so I can't really pull one thing off the menu. Just trust me! GO!

Edo's used to be our favorite restaurant. I have had several bad experiences the last few times that I went but clung to the hope that it was just a fluke. i will not be back after last night. The food has seriously gone down hill. I ordered the Kanpai that should come with filet, shrimp, and chicken. I got fillet, shrimp, and scallops. Too bad I don't like scallops. I asked for extra vegetables (and was charged for them) but because it is hibachi style my veggies were divided among everyone there. The chef is supposed to put on a show. That is suppose to make me feel better about paying 25 dollars a plate. Not only did he not fully construct a volcano or any other trademark show stoppers. He dumped everything on the grill at the same time. veggies were hard but burnt at the same time. food was rushed and my medium filet was still mooing. Everything came out so fast. I hadn't even begun to enjoy my dinner and the waiter came out with take out boxes..... I guess we didn't want dessert. I remember years ago, a trip to Edos cost about 16 a plate. You got a real show with top notch chefs (one of ours competed in Iron chef). The girls used to wear kimonos and after dinner they would wrap your food in foil and shape it into artwork. I felt rushed, didn't get what I want, and feel that the cleanliness is questionable. I miss the way it used to be.

I'd had given 4 (Yay! I'm fan) had I not heard and read about the cleanliness of the place AFTER I've been there a few weeks ago. I'll have to be more observant the next time I'm back. FOOD & PRICING: The sushi was much better than Mang and Hiro on 4th, but not as good as Bangkok on Central or Sushi Rock on 9th. Their pricing is comparable to Bangkok but a few dollars cheaper per order than Sushi Rock. DECOR: It was my 2nd time back to the place after about 3 years. I think it's because it doesn't look very inviting outside or inside. The place is very spacious, however, unlike Maggianos (by Westshore Mall in Tampa) and Acropolis (downtown St. Pete) which have upstairs dining areas AND great lighting, this place gives you a feeling of eating in a church's common dining area The very low lighting does not help at all. When I was there the first time about 3 years ago, I ate at the Hibachi table. It was cheap Chinese food with steak house prices. But this is how it is at most restaurants that call themselves "Japanese Steak House"; Joto in Sarasota, Arigato in St. Pete, Shogun in Venice. More than half of the bill was for the presentation. Pricing was the reason why I'd never go back to Arigato.again. Years ago, I took my mom to Arigato for Mother's Day. The cook basically just cooked the meal in front of us with a minute amount of presentation. I mentioned our dining experience to a lady who I'm guessing a family member of the owner, not not the owner, and was told was that he was tired and had worked all day. Our dinner was an early one. I understand being tired after a long day but as a restaurant, Arigato didn't mind the profit from providing a much less than expected dining experience.

We wanted to get sushi and were on the fence between Edo and Kinjo on Tyrone until I checked Yelp and read Kimmy's review (my Yelp soul sista!) She swayed me and I can't thank her enough. (your birthday is 2/10? that's my son's b-day, freaky) The food: awesome. I usually go totally raw with sushi, however a plate of tempura calamari was placed on the bar and looked fantastic. I had to order it and it was the best calamari I have ever had. It was so tender and the batter was like air. Fried calamari is dead to me now!! The spicy tuna hand roll was like butta baby. Not to spicy (which I am always afraid of) but so fresh it melted in your mouth. It was topped with flying fish roe and those things are like bubble wrap for the mouth, a bonus in my book. We ordered the lobster roll from the specials on the chalk board, at $13.95 I thought it was kinda pricy but it was really good and all in all we walked away for $65.00. This included alcohol, I was very pleased :)

Very dirty, greasy lamp on the table, the dinning area had a strange smell! The service at best was poor, waitress ignored our table. Food was over priced, small portions. Employee was wrapping silverware with his bare hands, touching the end of the silverware that goes in your mouth. Will not return, ever, terrible. Inspection food handling report is public information on line, google it!

We searched for a local sushi place open at 3pm, and one of the only ones was Edo. It turned out to be a great find. They superbly handled our large group, and the sushi was excellent. The fish was extremely fresh and came in large portions. They also gave us no problem with separate checks. There is a large selection of innovative rolls. It's also one of the few sushi places in St. Pete that doesn't also serve another Asian cuisine. They focus on Japanese cuisine, which I like. I ordered salmon roe and was very happy that it did not come sugared (some places sweeten it). It was, however, a bit expensive for lunch. Maybe that's the price you have to pay for them to stay open the whole day. It was worth it!

Service: GREAT (friendly and attentive) Food: SUPERB Environment: OKAY Cleanliness: IMMACULATE Price: $15-$30 for teppanyaki Coupons: Facebook check in gives you 15% off total bill OR go to their website for a $10 off $45 bill Special Comment: The teppanyaki grill show wasn't the best I've been to, but it's the best I've been to in the Saint Petersburg area. The chef prepared a funny and spectacular show for us, but lacked in fire. He did the egg roll joke, butterfly joke, flipped his tools all over the place, did the onion volcano, onion train, squirt bottle joke, and cook a fantastic meal.

The storefront Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar was a great experience. I liked that you had a choice of sitting at a Hibachi grill table or a regular table close to the Sushi bar. I chose the Hibachi table. I didnt count but there had to have been about 16 hibachi grills and place sits about 120+ people (on the Hibachi side). I ordered the Shogun meal and Lemonade. The manager took my order and he was a real nice guy. The place was packed so he helped his staff. After I placed my order, I received a hot soup, and then a salad. I didnt know what the soup was, but it was good. The salad had a weird asian crystallized dressing so I didnt eat all of it but it didnt bother me because the soup was good. I ordered the Shogun meal which consisted of steak, chicken, and scallops along with a side of noodles, rice, and vegetables. The way our food was cooked was very entertaining as it was cooked right before our very eyes and the chef was funny! The taste of the meal was just excellent and I was full! I like to eat at places where I get full off of main course meals and not bread and beverages. Me and my wife were fortunate to sit next to a group that had someone that was celebrating their birthday. They gave her a discount for her meal. I would live to go back the next time im in St. Petersburg, FL.

We went last week to Edo and what a surprise, the place has been remodeled!!! Yea! It has new tile floors and new tabletops - what a difference. The food was good, and we didn't smell like it when we left. You should check it out again, if you haven't been there in a while.

Although we were the only ones in this restaurant, the food was amazing. They probably need to clean their floors, they're a little gross but the food is definitely good. I would have to say this is one of the best hibachis food wise that i've been to. The quality of the food was excellent!

Have to admit, was pretty nervous from the time I drove up to this building, up until we got our food, then I was pleasantly surprised. Weird little plaza mall location but the sushi was good and the service was great. Didn't like the chairs around the sushi bar seating area with wheels on them, and those little lamps on the tables have got to go! Our table was kind of sticky too, otherwise I was pleasantly surprised and would most definitely come visit again for the hibachi tables. 3 stars for awesome service and good food. Check them out :-)

We were planning to try Kinjo for the first time, but they were closed, so we came here, also for the first time. We didn't do the hibachi menu, just the sushi and regular menu. We got the yakitori first. The chicken was overcooked but besides that it wasn't terrible. They wrapped the chicken around slices of onion which I had never seen. I think I'd skip it next time. Then we got an assortment of rolls. They do have some innovative rolls on the menu. What we got was ok. Some were good, some were just ok. We got a roll w/ chicken in it and again, it was overcooked. I guess that's way better than undercooked though. The sweet potato in the sweet potato roll was a little undercooked though. Everything else was alright. We got a "Tropical Roll" which had several different kinds of fish and fish roe, and that was good. Their roll portions were bigger than I expected too. I guess I'd go back. When I used to actually live here, I would go to Arigato for hibachi, I don't even know if this place existed then. But if I ever feel like hibachi when I'm around again, maybe I'd try here.

Used to go here often, but on our last visit it took way too long to get food, it wasn't very good, the chef forgot to cook my entree which meant I had to wait even longer, and the management offered us no compensation for our bad experience. We won't be going back. It's sad but Edo is not what it once was.

  • Scott S.

I've been going to Edo for 6 years or more. This place is excellent. It's my favorite hibachi. Its also my favorite sushi in St. Petersburg. It's never terribly crowded and doesn't have the waits that Arigato has. The place is old and not the cleanest. Many years back we had a roach incident and the most disappointing thing about the incident is that the management really didn't seem to care. That was many years ago and the place is so good and inexpensive I go back all the time.

    (4)
  • Howie S.

Been a customer there for about 5 years. It is family owned and we usually get sushi for lunch or dinner, but have also had dinner a few times at the hibachi tables. They are located in a plain strip center but they have a huge restaurant, we have never waited for a table even when they were slammed. They have a 2 roll lunch special for like $7 including soup or ginger salad. There are three Japanese restaurants within a 2 mile radius on 66th street so the prices are very competitive.

Let me just say this place is dark and dingy... Possibly dirty. Not my idea of good sushi and not cheap. I wouldn't go back.
